ARTIST BIO

Brenda Rodriguez (She/Her)

is a multidisciplinary dancer, teacher, and aspiring filmmaker.

Dance Career

Raised in Monterrey, Mexico, where she began ballet training at the distinguished school of Bellas Artes. At the age of twelve she moved to Toronto and continued her training in ballet at the Canada’s National Ballet School. She expanded her practice in various dance styles while attending Cardinal Carter Academy for the Arts and Cadence School of Ballet throughout high school.

She received her BFA with a focus in dance performance from Toronto Metropolitan University in 2021. In this Undergraduate program she trained rigorously in ballet, jazz, contemporary, modern, partnering, and street styles. This program gave her the chance to also explore and strengthen her acting and singing practice, and gain experience working in stage and film production. 

Brenda has had an extensive opportunity to train and collaborate alongside many different dance artists throughout her career, including Allen Kaeja, Louis Laberge-Cotê, Kate Hilliard, Robert Glumbeck, and Kenny Pearl. She also worked with ProArte Danza’s artistic director Roberto Campanella while studying at CCAA . During her time at TMU, she performed in works by Dora Mavor Moore Award winner Jera Wolfe, Kelly Shaw, Justine Chambers, Bobbi Jean and Or Shraiber. She was awarded the Orly Watkin Dance Award by the university in 2019.



Teaching Practice

Brenda began her teaching practice with Wild Fire Dance Studio in Toronto, in 2015. Here she continues to work as a contemporary, hip-hop, and ballet teacher, as well as a choreographer.

She joined JNS Dance’s faculty team in September 2021. She currently teaches ballet, lyrical, contemporary, jazz, hip-hop and acro.

She is an Acrobatic Arts certified teacher (2022)

Filmmaking and Directing

Brenda developed a passion for script-writing and film while studying at Toronto Metropolitan University, where she had chance to work on number of film productions and courses.

She is currently studying Television and Film Production at Fanshawe College.
